Every part, close up

The Fixed Cassette build-up, outside to inside, numbered as on the 3D model.

  1. Aluminium cassette: close-up of part 1 of the Fixed Cassette build-up (illustrative render) (opens the photo viewer)

    Part 1: Aluminium cassette

Aluminium trays, polyester powder-coated in any RAL colour or anodised. At the horizontal joint the upper cassette’s drip lip runs in front of the lower one’s upstand: a drained and ventilated labyrinth, so no insulation shows from the front.

2 to 4 mm aluminium; 48 mm deep, down to 20 mm depending on the bracket size. Size can be customised as per design requirement, up to 1300 × 3800 mm

  2. Face-fixed, powder-coated screws: close-up of part 2 of the Fixed Cassette build-up (illustrative render) (opens the photo viewer)

    Part 2: Face-fixed, powder-coated screws

Self-drilling screws with washers, powder-coated to the panel colour. In each vertical joint one screw goes through both cassettes’ flanges into the rail. The cut-away takes those cassettes off, so the close-up shows the screws on the finished wall.

5.5 mm screws in 6 mm holes; screws at 600 mm centres maximum, holes at 300 mm vertical centres

  3. Aluminium angle rail: close-up of part 3 of the Fixed Cassette build-up (illustrative render) (opens the photo viewer)

    Part 3: Aluminium angle rail

Vertical aluminium angles on the brackets, one at every vertical joint: each cassette’s wide flange lies on the angle, and the neighbour’s narrow flange over it.

    60 × 40 × 3 mm aluminium, mill finish

  4. Express FS bracket: close-up of part 4 of the Fixed Cassette build-up (illustrative render) (opens the photo viewer)

    Part 4: Express FS bracket

Our own Express FS helping-hand brackets, on their thermal pads in the channels, carry the rails and set the cavity. Each rail has one fixed point on a double bracket; the other rows are sliding points on single brackets, so the rail can move with temperature. Aluminium as standard; they can also be made in stainless steel.

Single EFS-1 at sliding points: 75 mm high, the rail screwed through its 2 slotted holes. Double EFD-1 at the fixed point: the rail screwed through its 4 round holes

  5. Bracket fixings: close-up of part 5 of the Fixed Cassette build-up (illustrative render) (opens the photo viewer)

    Part 5: Bracket fixings

Self-drilling screws fix each bracket’s wall leg to its channel, and the rail to the bracket: through the slotted holes at sliding points, through the round holes at the fixed point.

Into the channel: 2 screws through a single bracket, 4 through a double. Into the rail: 2 through the single’s slotted holes, 4 through the double’s round holes

  6. Rainscreen insulation: close-up of part 6 of the Fixed Cassette build-up (illustrative render) (opens the photo viewer)

    Part 6: Rainscreen insulation

Mineral wool slabs between the channels and over them, behind the drained and ventilated cavity.

Combined thickness, depending on the U-value requirement

  7. Horizontal galvanised channel: close-up of part 7 of the Fixed Cassette build-up (illustrative render) (opens the photo viewer)

    Part 7: Horizontal galvanised channel

Galvanised steel C channels across the studs at each bracket row, fixed through the board, so the rails can follow the panel module rather than the studs.

104 × 40 × 2 mm at sliding points (the 75 mm single bracket), 154 × 40 × 2 mm at fixed points (the double bracket); the size follows the bracket

  8. Breather membrane: close-up of part 8 of the Fixed Cassette build-up (illustrative render) (opens the photo viewer)

    Part 8: Breather membrane

Self-adhesive, on the outer face of the sheathing board.

  9. Sheathing board: close-up of part 9 of the Fixed Cassette build-up (illustrative render) (opens the photo viewer)

    Part 9: Sheathing board

Fixed to the outer face of the studs.

    12.5 mm

  10. MET-PRO SFS stud: close-up of part 10 of the Fixed Cassette build-up (illustrative render) (opens the photo viewer)

    Part 10: MET-PRO SFS stud

Our galvanised steel studs, the frame of the wall.

1.2 mm studs at up to 600 mm centres

How we work

Fixed Cassette FAQs

What is a cassette rainscreen system?

A rainscreen is an outer skin of panels on a support frame in front of the wall, with a cavity behind it. In a cassette system each panel is a separate tray fixed to that frame. Express ALU Pro Fixed Cassette panels, in 2 to 4 mm aluminium, are face-fixed with discreet powder-coated screws in the vertical recesses, colour-matched to the panels.

What is the difference between Fixed Cassette and Secret Fix?

Fixed Cassette panels are face-fixed, with discreet powder-coated screws in the vertical panel recesses, colour-matched to the façade. Secret Fix panels hook on to a carrier, so no fixings show. Both are made in aluminium and available in any RAL colour.

What fire testing has the Fixed Cassette system had?

This build-up is fire rated: certified fire test by Warringtonfire. The test covers the whole wall build-up. The report is available on request.

Can panel sizes be made to suit our design?

Yes. Size can be customised as per design requirement, up to 1300 × 3800 mm, in 2 to 4 mm aluminium. Send the elevations and we will confirm the panel module.

Is it suitable for schools and public buildings?

Yes. Those are typical applications, alongside residential and commercial buildings and offices.
